Two representatives of EastWest Institute visited Global Business Journalism (GBJ) on Wednesday, March 27, meeting Professor Anbin Shi, associate dean for international development for the journalism school, several faculty members and several students.
Jesal Mehta, senior events manager for EWI, and Alison Kung, program coordinator for the institute’s Worldwide Cybersecurity Initiative, were in Beijing to plan for EWI’s board meeting, which will be held in Beijing May 15-17. A number of GBJ students, alumni and faculty have been invited to have breakfast with board members during that week.
Ms. Mehta and Ms. Kung also toured GBJ facilities, including the Bloomberg center, and the journalism school’s new virtual TV studio. Dr. Andy Zhou, Associate Professor, director of MA program in International Journalism, also met with them and answered questions about the program.
Ms. Mehta and Ms. Kung were guests at a lunch on the Tsinghua campus hosted by Dr. Min Hang, Associate Professor, co-director of MA Program in Global Business Journalism. Also at the lunch were Margie Freaney, acting co-director of GBJ; Dr. Shule Cao, Assistant Professor, and Phil Willet, Visiting Professor from the University of Nebraska.
Six second-year GBJ students attended the lunch to meet the guests and talk about their experiences in the program: international students Daniel Charvat, of South Africa; Nicole Sy, of the Philippines; Nick Compton, from the United States, and Chinese students Irene Wong, Lotus Guo and Raymond Liu.
EastWest Institute, founded in 1980 and headquartered in New York, is an international, nonprofit policy association that describes itself as a global think-and-do tank, concentrating on security concerns and finding solutions to international problems. It also has offices in Brussels and Moscow, and sponsors public forums and private diplomacy initiatives in countries throughout the world.
