Tsinghua University’s Global Business Journalism Program played host to 13 students from the Indiana University School of Journalism in the United States on March 17.
The students and their professors, Dr. Emily Metzgar, joined GBJ students for a session of their “Business Data Mining and Analysis” course, taught by Professor Lee Miller, editor-at-large of Bloomberg News.
Indiana University student, Andrew Ireland, introduced his colleagues to the Tsinghua students. Professor Miller demonstrated the business ties between China and the state of Indiana by using several search functions on Bloomberg terminal.
Tsinghua has ten Bloomberg terminals in its Bloomberg Computer Lab, more than any other university in the world.
In order to collect data for further analysis, Professor Miller asked students to conduct a survey and interview each other. The GBJ students will write news stories based on the research.
Though this is the third group of journalism students from Indiana University to visit Tsinghua, most of the guests are new to China.
“It was really fun to get to meet everybody, and it was great to be in a hectic environment, because it’s what it really likes in journalism,” said Ike Hajinazarian, one of the undergraduate journalism students from Indiana University.
