Biography

Dr. Hu is a Professor, Doctoral Advisor, and the Administrative Dean of Tsinghua school of Journalism and Communication. He also holds the position of Executive Dean for Tsinghua University’s Institute for Cultural Creativity. He also serves as Chairman of Chinese Journalism Research Committee, and Chairman of the Professional Committee on Cultural Creativity of Tsinghua Alumni Association.

Dr. Hu has earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Economics(1996), Mater’s in Journalism(1998) and PhD in Law(2003) from Tsinghua University. He was also a visiting scholar at University of Southern California (USC) from 2008 to 2009.

Dr. Hu is well familiar with Chinese media, business, and governmental trends. He became the General Director of the Review and Theory Department of Chinese national daily newspaper-Science and Technology Daily in 2006; he became the Deputy Director of the Press Center of the State Council’s State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission (SASAC) in 2012; and was a member of All-China Youth Federation from 2010 to 2015. Dr. Hu has been at Tsinghua University from 2015 till now.

Dr. Hu is one of the pioneers of thought leading China. In recent years, he has been focusing on the improvement of humanity, encouraging cross-cultural communication and collaborations. Hoping to achieve his dream of world peace and youth exchange, Dr. Hu has brought his students to Africa, the Middle East, South America, South Asia, and many other countries to visit the local government, businesses, universities, media, non-governmental organizations, low income communities, and also many international organizations. Most notably United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat).

Dr. Hu directs numerous research projects and programs that are sponsored by China’s National Social Science Foundation, China’s National Arts Fund, the National Soft Science Research Program and many others. Dr. Hu also has published over 60 articles in various papers and more than 10 books, including Introduction to Journalism and Communication, News and Public Opinion, Effects of Mass Communication: Problems and Countermeasures, Classics Selection in Journalism Theory, From Made-in-China to Created-in-China—-Why Should We Build an Innovation-Oriented Country, Trends- China’s Sustainable Development Led by Innovation and a collection of his personal essays- Shui Mu Lao Yin. He also translates some classic works for example, The Man in the Mirror, William Marion Reedy and His Magazine.

Dr. Hu has won many academic awards some notable ones being, first place in the National Outstanding Books for Youth, the National Award for Excellent Textbooks in Colleges and Universities, first place in Excellent Achievements in Philosophy and Social Sciences in Jiangsu Province, also for Excellent Papers in Journalism of National College of Journalism and Communication, the National Award for Outstanding Contribution in Strategic Planning (2006-2020) for Medium-and Long-term Science and Technology Development.
