Tim Craighead of Bloomberg Industries gave a guest lecture April 22 to Professor Lee Miller's Data Mining class on the hotel and gaming industry, with a focus on Macau.
Craighead, director of Asian Research, described the phenomenal growth that is taking place in Macau, which has several times the volume of gaming revenues of Las Vegas. A half-dozen new resorts are being developed there with a focus on attracting a middle-class rather than VIP clientele.
He used the Bloomberg terminal to show students the main competitors in this industry and how their stock prices are affected by news about Macau. He also showed them some of the best data and metrics to use when writing stories about the gaming industry.
Craighead also talked about the markets for crude oil, gold and the yen and how those markets affect other industries.
