Professor SHI, Anbin, Associate Dean of International Development, speaks on CCTV to elucidate the emergent "we-the-media" such as we-chat, weibo (Chinese equivalent of twitter) in China and worldwide, following up with a heated debate on the role of social media in the breaking-news coverage of Boston Marathon bombing. Professor Shi contends that social media provide a driving force for government transparency and democratic deliberation. However, legacy media and professional still plays an essential role in validating the truthfulness of information and making sense of the tits and bits over flown in the free marketplace of ideas.
