Representatives of the Tsinghua School of Journalism and Communication and Indiana University in the United States are moving forward with talks to deepen their recent partnership, which has benefited both Chinese and American journalism students.
Professor SHI Anbin, Associate Dean of International Development met on July 3 with Lars Willnat, a professor of journalism and Director of Graduate Studies at Indiana University’s Media School, to discuss possible faculty and student exchanges in coming years. Also attending the meeting was Rick Dunham, co-director of the Global Business Journalism Program at Tsinghua.
Indiana University journalism students have visited the Tsinghua campus for the past several years, attending classes at the School of Journalism and Communication and working with Tsinghua students on academic projects. The visits have fostered cross-culture understanding and discussions of “best practices” in modern journalism, Professor Dunham said.
Professor Shi and the Indiana officials discussed possible future exchanges of students and faculty, joint research projects, workshops and seminars. The next step in formalizing the relationship will be the drafting of a memorandum of understanding between the Tsinghua School of Journalism and Communication and Indiana’s Media School.
