A delegation of Australian journalists invited by the China Journalists Association visited Tsinghua School of Journalism and Communication (TSJC) on Oct.24, 2014.
Six members of the delegation were from Australian mainstream media: ABC, Australian Associated Press and Sydney Morning Herald, as well as Australian Financial Review and Asia Pacific News Center of Australia.
The meeting was held between the delegation and the first year graduate students from the International Journalism and Communication program and some doctoral students.
Professor Shi Anbin, Associate Dean of School of Journalism and Communication, hosted the meeting and introduced the history and features of the School of Journalism and Communication in research fields, international outlook and various student activities. Professor Shi also discussed the history of Chinese media development and the globalization of Chinese mainstream publications and agencies.
The Australian journalists discussed in depth with students some major differences of media industry between China and Australia, including modes of media operation, journalistic professionalism, as well as the topics such as freedom of media and balanced reporting. Students from the School of Journalism and Communication also shared their academic arrangements and future career planning with the delegation.
The meeting promoted communication and understanding between Chinese journalism major students and Australian journalists on Chinese and Australian media, and gave an opportunity for the future Chinese young journalists to present their voices and opinions and learn from experienced media practitioners.
