Sheng Yang, a second-year graduate student in the School of Journalism and Communication, Tsinghua University, was enrolled in the overseas internship program by the Publicity Department and the Ministry of Education of China earlier this year.
During the six-month internship as a correspondent with China Daily USA, Sheng mainly covered stories on various beats such as international relations, politics, economy and culture.
After Sheng arrived in Washington, D.C. in late October, he published over 20 stories and also photo-news, ranging from feature stories on Chinese-American community leaders to coverage of political and cultural events, including many that were headline news or were featured as outstanding photos by China Daily USA.
In the first two-month round of his internship, Sheng not only completed his work for China Daily, but also travelled and experienced the country in his free time, and published English audio reports and Chinese language stories on his own public Wechat account and other social media platforms.
