Introduction to Summer School
Tsinghua University's “Media and Global Youth Leadership Summer School” is designed to provide international undergraduate students interested in journalism and communication with an opportunity for cross-border, cross-cultural academic exchange and practical experience. This program aims to create a platform for the international exchange of young talents through short-term summer camps. Students will have the chance to explore global media industry trends, China's economy and culture, and the learning and living environment at Tsinghua University. Additionally, the program seeks to enhance students' cross-cultural communication skills, broaden their international perspective, and foster academic friendships and exchanges between Chinese and foreign youth.
Introduction to TSJC
The School of Journalism and Communication at Tsinghua University (TSJC) was established in 2002. The educational principles and training philosophy of the school are “Rooted in quality. Driven by practice. Oriented toward the mainstream. And: Dedicated to cultivating experts.”
TSJC established the Global Business Journalism (GBJ) Master's Program in 2007, pioneering the first and only international master's program conducted entirely in English in China. Over two decades, the school has emerged as a leading institution in international journalism education in China, particularly excelling in business journalism education. Moreover, TSJC offers diverse specializations conducted in Mandarin, including international journalism, film and television communication, data communication, health and risk communication, and media innovation. The school has nurtured numerous young multimedia experts for the international media industry.
In addition to TSJC's esteemed teaching faculty, the school also hosts long-term visiting scholars and lecturers, comprising experts and senior scholars from renowned Chinese and international media outlets. These include senior editors and reporters from prestigious institutions such as Bloomberg News, Reuters, the Associated Press, Time, Business Week, and the Financial Times. Furthermore, TSJC frequently invites global media and business leaders as special guest speakers for lectures and workshops, offering students invaluable firsthand insights and practical experience in the forefront of the industry.
Introduction to Courses and Activities
The curriculum of the program is rich and varied, encompassing international communication and global governance, intelligent communication and the application of science and technology, audio-visual communication and creative media, business journalism, and economic communication. The courses include lectures, seminars, field visits, and other formats. We invite faculty from the Tsinghua School of Journalism and Communication, renowned scholars from China and abroad, and experts from the media industry to share the latest theoretical research and practical experience.
The program will facilitate in-depth discussions among students on hot topics in the field of journalism and communication. Students will visit leading international media companies, organizations, research centers, and corporate practice bases to gain firsthand experience of media industry trends in different countries and regions, broadening their international perspectives and enhancing their professional literacy. Additionally, the program will organize a variety of cultural activities.
Program Arrangements
Assessment Requirements
(1) Attendance: 25%
(2) Individual Assignments: 25%
(3) Final Group Presentation: 50%
Registration Details
(1) Duration: July 1 to July 15, 2024
(2) Lecture Venue: Tsinghua University and off-campus mobile classroom unit.
(3) Cost: Program fee: 8,000 yuan per student, covers tuition, campus accommodation, and insurance. Transportation and daily expenses are self-funded.
(4) Enrollment: 15-20 students
(5) Scholarships: Admitted students will have the chance to receive a scholarship of 3,000 yuan each.

Potential Candidates
(1) International undergraduate students (non-Chinese). Preference will be given to students in their junior year.
(2) Proficient in either English or Chinese, with strong listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills.
(3) Possess cross-cultural communication abilities and a global perspective.
