The Global Business Journalism program is going global again in the summer of 2024.
After a winter program in Europe in January and a summer program in Thailand in July 2023, GBJ co-director Rick Dunham will host a 10-day summer journalism training program for Tsinghua University students from July 28 to August 7 in the United States.
The 2024 Media/Leadership Summer Training Program will take place in Washington, D.C., and is designed for current and graduating Tsinghua University students. Participants will attend sessions at venues like the National Press Club and the International Center for Journalists. The program includes mentor-led courses, guest lectures, seminars and media organization visits. There also will be practical assignments including street interviews, photography and video editing. Topics to be covered range from interview techniques to international news reporting.
The program's founder, Professor Dunham, directed earlier Washington programs in 2017 and 2018, before the U.S.-China trade war made obtaining visas for Chinese students almost impossible. Because of the recent thaw in bilateral relations, the program has resumed this year, he said.
Program applicants should be current Tsinghua students, including those graduating this June. Students hoping to enter the Global Business Journalism program in September also are eligible. A maximum of 15 participants will be selected from among the applicants.
All participants who successfully finish the program will receive completion certificates from the International Center for Journalists.
The cost of the program is 12,000 RMB per person. Accommodation fees are extra and are expected to cost about $1,000 for 10 days, double occupancy. Students are responsible for their air fare to and from the United States.
Because space is limited, candidates should apply as soon as possible via the Tsinghua Cloud link embedded here. If a visa application is denied by the American embassy for any reason, the student will receive a full refund of the program fee.
